Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport is the main international airport serving Budapest, the capital of Hungary, and the wider Central European region. Named after the renowned Hungarian composer Franz Liszt, the airport handles the vast majority of Hungary's air traffic and serves as a key hub for connections across Europe, the Middle East, and beyond. The airport is located approximately 16 kilometres southeast of central Budapest and operates two primary passenger terminals. It handled around 16 million passengers in 2019 before COVID-19 significantly reduced traffic, with recovery progressing steadily in subsequent years. Formerly known as Ferihegy Airport, it was renamed in 2011 to honor Franz Liszt on the 200th anniversary of his birth. The airport is owned and operated by Budapest Airport Zrt., with the Hungarian government having repurchased a majority stake in 2023 after years of private ownership.

Terminals

The airport operates two main terminals, Terminal 2A and 2B, which are connected and handle both Schengen and non-Schengen flights; the older Terminal 1 has been closed to passengers since 2012.

Getting to & from

The airport is connected to central Budapest by bus services (including the 100E express bus to Deák Ferenc tér) and by taxi, with no direct rail link to the city centre currently operational.

Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport, formerly known as Budapest Ferihegy International Airport and commonly called Ferihegy, is the international airport serving the Hungarian capital city of Budapest. It is the largest of the country's four commercial airports, ahead of Debrecen and Hévíz–Balaton. The airport is located 16 kilometres southeast of the center of Budapest and was renamed in 2011 after Hungarian composer Franz Liszt on the occasion of his 200th birthday. The facility covers 1,515 hectares and has two runways.
