Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) is the flag carrier of Ukraine, operating scheduled domestic and international passenger and cargo services. Founded in 1992, it grew to become the largest airline in Ukraine, serving dozens of destinations across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and North America. The airline is headquartered in Kyiv and uses Boryspil International Airport as its primary hub. UIA has faced significant challenges in recent years, including the tragic shootdown of Flight PS752 by Iranian forces in January 2020, which killed all 176 people on board, and severe operational disruptions following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. As of 2022, UIA suspended most of its operations due to the closure of Ukrainian airspace resulting from the ongoing war with Russia. Pacific Southwest Airlines (PSA) was a low-cost airline in the United States headquartered in San Diego, California, that operated from 1949 to 1988. Founded by Kenny Friedkin and J. Floyd Andrews, it was the first substantial scheduled discount airline. PSA called itself "The World's Friendliest Airline" and painted a smile on the nose of its airplanes, the PSA Grinningbirds. The Los Angeles Times called PSA "practically the unofficial flag carrier airline of California for almost forty years".
