The Essence of Larnaca International Airport

Larnaca Airport isn't going to rival the culinary temples of Nicosia or Limassol, but it does better than most Mediterranean hub airports of its size. The main departure hall houses a handful of sit-down spots and grab-and-go counters, and if you time things right you can eat genuinely well before your flight. The standout option is the café-restaurant run by the local Zorbas bakery chain, a Cypriot institution beloved for its fresh-baked bread, flaky cheese-filled bourekia, and strong Cypriot coffee served with the grounds still settling at the bottom of the cup.
For something more substantial, the full-service restaurant near the central gate area offers a short but honest menu of Cypriot classics — think grilled halloumi that squeaks and browns beautifully, slow-cooked kleftiko lamb, and creamy hummus with warm pitta. It's not cheap by local standards, as airport markups apply, but the quality holds up surprisingly well. Pair your meal with a small carafe of local Commandaria wine, the ancient sweet dessert wine of Cyprus, and you'll leave feeling like you actually experienced the island rather than just passed through it.
Beyond the sit-down options, a scattering of kiosks and convenience-style counters stocks packaged loukoumades, sesame-coated koulouria rings, and vacuum-sealed halloumi — all solid choices if you're hunting for edible souvenirs or a last-minute snack before boarding. The airport is compact enough that you won't spend long hunting for the right spot. Arrive ninety minutes before departure, clear security without rushing, and give yourself thirty minutes to eat properly. That's the Cypriot way, and even in an airport, it shows.
