Athens Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport is the largest and busiest airport in Greece, serving as the main hub for international and domestic air travel in the country. Named after prominent Greek statesman Eleftherios Venizelos, it replaced the old Hellenikon Airport and was inaugurated in time for the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. The airport is located near the town of Spata in Attica, approximately 35 kilometres east of central Athens. It handles tens of millions of passengers annually and serves as the primary hub for Aegean Airlines and a base for Sky Express. The facility is operated by Athens International Airport S.A. and has received numerous awards for service quality and operational efficiency. Its single main terminal is designed to handle both Schengen and non-Schengen traffic within an integrated layout.
